OnePlus is getting serious. Diversifying its portfolio, today the Chinese company announced the brand new OnePlus X. Where the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 were all about flagships on a budget, the X is meant to be all about premium design.
Available in either onyx or Ceramic attire, both models feature a full anodized metal frame with 17 sexy grooves etched in. On the Onyx version, it has a standard black glass panel with a glossy mirror-like finish, which is nothing particularly interesting.
The Ceramic variant, however, is ridiculous. According to OnePlus, it takes 25 days to manufacture, and it begins its formation as a 0.5mm zirconia mold which is heated to 1480 degree furnace for more than 28 hours. After two full days of cooling down, it’s polished and prepped to ensure it reaches an 8.5H hardness rating on the Mohs scale. Wow.

It measures 140 x 69 x 6.9mm, so it’s incredibly thin, sleek and compact. I can barely remember the days of 5-inch screens. Although the Onyx is only 138 grams, the Ceramic is 160 grams, so it’s a bit heavier.
More than just a pretty face, it features a 5-inch FullHD AMOLED display. It has a still relevant, although aging Snapdragon 801 chip, alongside 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage that is expandable.
As for the camera, it’s been paired with a 13-megapixel ISOCELL sensor, thanks to Samsung, with an f/2.2 aperture lens on the back, and an OmniVision 8-megapixel sensor on the front, with an f/2.4 lens. It can’t shoot 4K video.
It runs Android 5.1, sadly, with an OxygenOS on top.
It has a pretty small 2,520 mAh battery.
Obviously, it comes with normal things like 3G, 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, and so forth.
The Onyx variant is available for $249 and will be sold worldwide. The very exclusive Ceramic version will only have 10,000 copies made and will not be sold in the States. The price tag is $320.
