Calgary is an exceptional city in terms of cleanliness,, being the cleanest in the world. If you want to get a good walk in, Prince's Island Park is definitely something. The Calgary Zoo is also qualified to be one of the best. Even though job opportunities aren't so great, the quality of life in this city is amazing due to how satisfyingly clean it is. I recommend the Glenbow Museum, lots to see there. The Calgary Tower is ideal for sightseeing, and the Chinook Mall is really big and good for shopping.

Pros

  • 5th most livable city in world
  • Cleanest city in the world
  • Lots of amazing sights
  • Clean downtown
  • Biggest city in Alberta
  • A LOT of oil.
  • Has a few lakes/reservoirs.
  • People are friendly.

Cons

  • Not too many job opportunities

Lived here for over half my life. It's kinda mid tbh. It's about what you'd expect from a large city in Canada. Winters are cold af. Heat from the chinooks are great and all, but I can't stand the pressure headaches that come from it. Sometimes you'll just be waiting for the bus and the app will say 15 minutes, so you wait for 15 minutes, check the app again and it now says 35. Now you may be thinking "maybe it just thinks the bus passed already" so you wait a little bit longer.... and you end up literally waiting the full 35 extra minutes because either the last bus evaporated, or it showed up 15 minutes early right before you got there. Traffic is awful. Everybody says "ooooh don't take deerfoot drive during rush hour", but have you tried taking crowchild trail during rush hour? If you arent intending to go down the next exit, good luck getting out of the exit lane. And if you're in the middle and need the next exit, good luck getting into the exit lane. Truth be told though, we have some pretty decent malls. We have a big ol' bass pro shop for them cowboys 🤠 the same cowboys that take up 60% of our population, but they like to think they're the only ones here. You know the ones, blasting their country music about farm life and drinking a beer on the beach in their GMC trucks because they're city cowboys that think they're a little too sophisticated for a Ford. We at least have some nice parks like fish creek and nose hill. They're filled with homeless people, but still beautiful. And if you look out even on your front lawn you can see little bunnies that weren't here a few years ago because someone released a bunch of DOMESTICATED BUNNIES and they spread across the city. You can occasionally see a deer or a coyote, but mostly squirrels, ravens and magpies. If you're looking for somewhere to raise a family, Calgary might be a good place for you, but once your kid turns 18 and wants to move out, their only real option is to get an apartment downtown with at least two roommates. Make sure they have attack alarms (but no self defense weapons because they're illegal) to fend off the weirdos of downtown, and possibly a bullet-proof vest because for some reason random maniacs really love the residential areas of downtown. But hey, at least we have a giant head made of wire and a big ol blue ring with a street light on it that cost us millions of tax dollars that could have been used to fix the potholes in the road.

Pros

  • Big blue ring
  • More affordable than California
  • Not too hot in summer
  • One of the biggest national parks
  • Affordable-ish public transit

Cons

  • Cowboys 🤠 all of them
  • Failing education system
  • Traffic
  • Potholes
  • Bad winters
  • Chinook headaches
  • Public transport kinda wack
